In today’s showdown, I’ll compare the Roborock Q7 Max vs S7, which are part of Roborock’s portfolio of robot vacuums without self-emptying bases. They offer similar features, but the Roborock Q7 Max can vacuum better, mainly due to stronger suction or higher airflow. The Roborock S7 can mop the floor more efficiently thanks to its advanced VibraRise mopping system.

Roborock Q7 Max Vs S7: Differences

It is hard to call a winner here since the Q7 Max vacuums better while the S7 mops better. Keep reading to see more!

Cleaning Performance

Winner: Roborock Q7 Max

Suction Power

Roborock Q7 MaxRoborock S7
Max Suction (Pa)42002500
Max Airflow (CFM)≈ 15.8≈ 12.5

The Q7 Max easily has a higher max airflow of 15.8 CFM, while the S7 only peaks at 12.5 CFM. Considering they use the same brush roller, the Q7 Max cleaned better on almost all types of surfaces, with my high-pile carpet being the sole exception.

Hard Floor

Roborock Q7 MaxRoborock S7
≈ 97%≈ 95%

I tested these Roborocks on a mix of debris, including quinoa, pet litter, quaker oats, coffee grounds, etc., and Q7 Max was slightly better. This reinforced my hypothesis that robots with high airflow tend to clean hard floors better than low-airflow options.

Carpet

Roborock Q7 MaxRoborock S7
Low-pile Carpet≈ 94%≈ 92%
High-pile Carpet≈ 95%≈ 96%

The Q7 Max was better at cleaning the low-pile carpet with a 94% score, while the S7 stole the show on the high-pile one at around 96%. Whatever, the differences were insignificant, and they generally passed the carpeting tests with flying colors.

Hair

Roborock Q7 MaxRoborock S7
5-inch Strands≈ 87%≈ 72%
10-inch Strands≈ 61%≈ 56%

The Q7 Max picked up more hair than the S7, thanks to higher airflow again. They generally did the job well with 5-inch strands and struggled with longer 10-inch strands. Cleaning their rollers at the end of the day was a walk in the park because the hair didn’t tightly entangle itself around them.

Design & Usability

Winner: Tie

First Look & Dimensions

Roborock Q7 MaxRoborock S7
Dimensions (W x H)13.8 x 4.17 inches13.8 x 3.8 inches
Weight9.59 lbs10.3 lbs

Design-wise, these Roborocks are almost doppelgangers, and amateurs will have a hard time figuring out which one is the Q7 Max and which one is the S7. Both robots utilize a puck-shaped frame with the same LIDAR-raised tower on top. On the underside, both have a brush roll, a side-sweeper brush, wheels, and an assortment of sensors. The dimensions of these robots are almost the same, but the S7 Max is a bit heavier, likely because of its mopping unit, I think.

Extractor & Side Brush

The next similarity is the main brush and side brush. Both use the same all-rubber brush roller, and I really liked this type since the bristle-free design could prevent hair from wrapping too tightly around the roller, making it easier to clean. They also share a 5-arm rubberized side brush located in the same position.

Navigation

Both use a Lidar sensor with 3D mapping technology to create both 2D and 3D maps under the roof with pinpoint accuracy, enabling them to clean without missing any spots. These Roborocks can even work in low-light conditions, and the ability to save up to four maps makes them ideal for multi-story apartments.

LIDAR navigation technology

They both use LIDAR laser-based technology so the navigational patterns of these robots are remarkably similar. They start the cleaning trip at the edges before moving to the middle areas in a back-and-forth motion to clean your living space thoroughly.

The thing is that small obstacles on the floor are almost invisible to these bots since their LIDAR sensors are situated on top. For small obstacle avoidance, like cables and cords, you’d be better off opting for a Roborock model that comes equipped with a front-facing camera, such as the S7 MaxV.

Battery Life

Roborock Q7 MaxRoborock S7
Battery Life≈ 91-183 mins≈ 91-194 mins
Charging Time≈ 198 mins≈ 234 mins

Speaking of battery and working life, they both use a 5200 mah battery and can last up to 3 hours straight on a single charge if they are on the lowest power setting. Hence, they can handle even large homes without recharging often. If their battery does run low mid-cleaning, fear not, for they will intelligently retreat to their home base for a recharge before returning to the exact location they paused, resuming their cleaning task without skipping a beat.

Control

Winner: Tie

Manual Control

The Q7 Max and S7 share a 3-button system: a power button to turn them on/off, a home button to send them home, and a spot-cleaning button to clean a small zone within your room. And yes, that’s all you can do with physical buttons on top of them. To make use of the rest, you need your cell phone at hand and the Roborock Home app already installed.

App Connectivity

Both the Q7 Max and S7 can be controlled remotely via the Roborock Home app, and they share the same set of features. So let’s talk about the most helpful ones.

The Roborock app is the first to show the robot’s location in real time and use grid lines to illustrate the areas it has cleaned. This sets Roborock ahead of its competitors, including the industry giant iRobot, which hadn’t yet introduced this feature. Another feature that Roborock introduced in their app is the 3D map: It enables you to view the map in a 3D manner, and you can add furniture as you like.

you can track the robot's location and all the zones it has cleaned

You can choose a certain room to clean separately, as long as you have the map divided into different rooms and named them. You can set zoned cleaning zones for precise cleaning in targeted areas or draw invisible walls or no-go zones to shield delicate areas from the robot’s reach. Likewise, you have the option to set no-mop zones on the map to prevent the Q7 Max/S7 from wetting carpets while they are in mopping mode.

You can also adjust the power suction or choose the water flow of the Q7 Max/S7 right on the app. There is also a maintenance tab that shows the different components that need TLC or replacement. You can also use Alexa or Google Assistant for voice control or set up cleaning schedules to forget about your robot.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Winner: Tie

The S7 has a 0.3-liter tank for water and a 0.47-liter bin for dust. Meanwhile, the Q7 Max is the first (and only) Roborock vacuum to have a dust bin and water tank assembly with capacities of 0.47 liters and 0.35 liters, respectively. In my opinion, the combo bin/tank on the Q7 Max is a bit inconvenient since you can’t remove the water tank or dust bin independently. Rather, you have to remove both components together.

Their home bases do not have self-emptying or self-refilling functions, so you will need to do these things manually. That means they need to be kept an eye on throughout the cleaning process to receive help when needed. If you prefer a more hands-off approach, consider their “Plus” version, which comes with a self-cleaning base. Don’t forget to clean their E11-grade filters monthly.

Other Features

Winner:  Roborock S7

Noise

Roborock Q7 MaxRoborock S7
Working≈ 59-75 dB≈ 57–62 dB
Self-EmptyingNoneNone

The difference in airflow between the Q7 Max and S7 is noticeable in terms of noise levels, with the Q7 Max being louder across all settings due to its higher airflow. So the S7 is the better option if loudness is a deciding factor.

Mopping Ability

Another factor that needs to be taken into account is the mopping ability, and the S7 takes the lead with an advanced VibraRise mopping system that utilizes vibrations to create a scrubbing motion, which helps in removing stubborn dirt and grime more effectively. This feature, vibrating up to 3000 times per minute, adds an extra layer of cleaning efficiency that the Q7 Max lacks, as the Q7 Max only drags its mop pad across the floor without any additional scrubbing action.

The VibraRise mopping system on the Roborock S7

In my real-world tests with juice stains, both the Q7 Max and S7 performed well, easily cleaning up the mess. However, when faced with the more challenging task of cleaning dried-on BBQ sauce, the S7’s advanced VibraRise mopping system showed its superiority by performing better than the Q7 Max. Despite this, the S7 was not able to completely remove all the dried-on sauce, proving that even the most advanced robot vacuum mopping systems still have limitations and can’t fully replace the traditional method of using a stick mop and some elbow grease.

Another unique thing about the S7 is that it can lift its mop plate up 5mm when it encounters carpet. This is great, but it’s almost useless with high-pile carpets since the mop plate might still touch the carpet, and you still can’t skip setting no-mop zones on the app.
