Deebot X1 Omni vs Roomba J7+: it is like comparing two titans of the robotic cleaning world. Both are in a similar price range and come with a host of comparable features, including a self-cleaning base, sophisticated obstacle avoidance technology, and the ability to be controlled remotely via phone or voice.
The Deebot X1 Omni comes out as the overall winner since it has a lot of bells and whistles that the Roomba J7+ doesn’t. For example, it has a good mop system, a real-time video monitoring function, a dedicated voice interface, and more. But Be prepared – it could take up a large chunk of your next month’s earnings!

Deebot X1 Omni Vs Roomba J7+: Differences
At the end of the day, the Deebot X1 Omni beat the Roomba J7+ with a score of 5-0. But which of these mechanical marvels best suits your needs? Stick around to discover more!
Cleaning Performance
Winner: Deebot X1 Omni
Hard Floor
Deebot X1 Omni | Roomba J7+ |
---|---|
97 % | ≈ 95% |
When it came to picking up debris on hard floors, which is the main job of robot vacuums, both performed extremely well. They picked up most everything on this type of surface with no noticeable variance between them.
Carpets
Deebot X1 Omni | Roomba J7+ | |
---|---|---|
Low-pile Carpet | ≈ 94% | ≈ 92% |
High-pile Carpet | ≈ 96% | ≈ 96% |
They both also put in an admirable performance in tackling debris across my two types of carpets. They missed a small amount of debris here and there, but not enough to be of concern, and their overall removal rates are still fantastic for robot vacuums.
Hair Pet
Deebot X1 Omni | Roomba J7+ | |
---|---|---|
5-inch Strands | ≈ 74% | ≈ 72% |
10-inch Strands | ≈ 66% | ≈ 56% |
The worst performance was picking up hair, especially 10-inch strands. For deeper cleaning, I highly recommend using a powerful upright vacuum. Thanks to its bristle-free dual brush rollers, the Deebot X1 Omni did a better job of preventing hair from tangling.
Design & Usability
Winner: Deebot X1 Omni
Dimensions & Weight
Deebot X1 Omni | Roomba J7+ | |
---|---|---|
Dimensions (W x H) | 14.3 x 4.1 inches | 13.3 x 3.4 inches |
Weight | 9.6 lbs | 7.49 lbs |
Visually speaking, both robots sport a hockey puck-like shape with a glossy, eye-catching finish. The X1 Omni is a bit wider and taller because of a raised LIDAR tower, which could pose maneuverability issues in tight spaces or under low furniture. They also come with Home Bases, which double as both charging docks and self-emptying towers – The good news is that they’re handsome enough that you won’t have to hide them away in a corner!
Extractor & Side Brush
This is among the most significant differences between these housekeepers. The X1 Omni uses a single spiral bristled roller, while the Roomba J7+ features twin rubber-coated brushes for better tangle resistance. Their rollers can all be easily removed for quick untangling, and the X1 Omni even includes a hook-ended tool to make the task a breeze.
The X1 Omni has two 3-arm side brushes, whereas the Roomba J7+ just has one. Naturally, having two brushes allows the former to sweep up more debris from multiple directions, potentially making the cleaning process faster and more efficient.
Navigation
During their mapping runs, these two robots employ distinct approaches. The X1 Omni uses advanced LiDAR technology, while the Roomba J7+ leverages its PrecisionVision Navigation in conjunction with Imprint Smart Mapping technology to map out your home.
The X1 Omni features a circular laser tower perched atop its frame that continuously scans its surroundings. A major plus is its capability to function effectively in environments with low light, and in my experience, a single test run was all it took to generate a virtual map. It would be perfect if this one allowed users to save more than three maps.
Conversely, the Roomba J7+ leverages a front-facing camera for vision-based navigation, requiring a minimum of three initial test runs to generate a complete map of your home. While it does sport an LED headlight, the J7+ still demands sufficient lighting for optimal navigation. However, a silver lining is its ability to remember up to 10 different floor plans.
One area where both robots impress me is their ability to detect and navigate around common household obstacles like artificial pet waste, shoes, mugs, and power cords. This seems like a dream come true for families with pets. I mean, everyone knows how horrible it would be for a robot to roll over animal poop and spread it around.
The built-in camera on the X1 Omni can even function as a CCTV camera – a feature I’ll delve into later. Meanwhile, the J7+’s camera snaps photos of unidentified objects and sends them to you via the app for you to decide for yourself what the robot should do with them.
Battery Life
Deebot X1 Omni | Roomba J7+ | |
---|---|---|
Battery Life | ≈ 62-146 mins | ≈ 98 mins |
Charging Time | ≈ 256 mins | ≈ 120 mins |
The X1 Omni has an impressive working life between charges with its 5,200 mAh battery, compared to the smaller 2210 mAh battery on the Roomba J7+. I don’t know about you, but I usually don’t care too much about the battery life of modern robot vacuum cleaners, including the X1 Omni and J7+, since they all have a “recharge and resume” feature.
Control
Winner: Deebot X1 Omni
Manual Control
To maintain a minimalist, contemporary look, each of these vacuums comes equipped with a single button on the top. So if your phone isn’t within reach, a simple press initiates the cleaning cycle, another halts it, and a long press sends the robot scurrying back to its base.
App Connectivity
To fully unleash the capabilities of the Deebot X1 Omni and the Roomba J7+, it’s essential to pair them with their corresponding smartphone apps—the Ecovacs Home and iRobot Home Apps. Both are free to download and cross-compatible with the iOS and Android platforms. And when it comes to the feature sets they offer, there are various similarities and a few differences.
If this is your first time, you can access a very detailed map, separate and name rooms, or merge them. You can then ask the robot (via virtual assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant) to vacuum a specific room or set up a daily schedule where the robot vacuums your kitchen after lunch or cleans your living room after you go to bed at night. The Ecovacs Home app also allows you to add pieces of furniture to a 3D version of the map and ask the X1 Omni to do something like “clean under the sofa” or “clean around the kitchen table.”
Want to keep your robot vacuum away from certain areas of your home? Both apps offer the functionality to create virtual boxes around no-go zones, making sure the robot sidesteps them during its cleaning missions. The iRobot app has a “clean zones” function that lets you use blue boxes to pinpoint smaller areas within rooms for focused cleaning.
Apart from no-go zones, the Ecovacs app goes the extra mile by including an “invisible wall” feature, which provides the ability to restrict diagonal spaces as well. You can even choose no-mop zones for areas where you don’t want the X1 Omni to use its mopping function.
Some other commonalities between these two apps allow you to schedule cleaning for specific days and times and check the status of the side brush, main brush roll, filter, and more.
Ready for a twist in the tale? Both the X1 Omni and Roomba J7+ can be voice-controlled via Alexa and Google Assistant, but the former takes it a step further with its own built-in virtual assistant named Yiko.
Yiko may not offer weather updates or play your favourite Spotify tracks, but she helps operate the X1 Omni without even needing to touch your phone. You can even call her over to an exact spot without having to pinpoint a spot on the app’s map. Yiko is great, and I found her to be responsive most of the time. But there were several times I had to repeat the command up to three times to get her attention, not to mention the speaker quality was somewhat crummy as well.
The front-facing camera on the X1 Omni can even function as a CCTV camera, or, as I call it, a home security camera. I mean, you can absolutely use it to patrol your apartment as you would with a minesweeping robot. Even better, its two-way audio feature enables you to have real-time conversations with anyone at home. Trust me, there is no better way than this to surprise your guests!
Cleaning & Maintenance
Winner: Deebot X1 Omni
While the X1 Omni uses a 0.4-liter dustbin to house things it picks up on the go, the Roomba J7+ features a larger 0.5-liter bin. There is no significant difference, and you can just forget about their capacities since they both come with self-emptying bases. After cleaning, these robots return to their bases, where all the contents get sucked up into a hidden disposable bag.
While the J7’s home base is quite compact, the one that comes out of the box with the X1 Omni is truly a fortress. In addition to containing a disposable dust bag, this Hulk-sized tower also has room for two big water reservoirs (one for clean water and one for wasted water) and four smart options: sucking up debris, auto-refilling, rinsing the pads, and drying the pads. You also need to ensure these water tanks are filled or emptied on a regular basis. The good news? Both the app and voice assistant will send you timely reminders, and the task is easily accomplished.
By the way, they also come with non-washable HEPA filters. The recommended way to clean these filters is by gently tapping them against the side of a trash can, ideally once or twice a week, depending on your usage. Remember: Submerging them in water is a no-go.
Other Features
Winner: Deebot X1 Omni
Noise
Deebot X1 Omni | Roomba J7+ | |
---|---|---|
Working | ≈ 63-72 dB | ≈ 59 dB |
Self-Emptying | ≈ 81 dB | ≈ 72 dB |
I found the Roomba J7+ to be quite quiet, and so was the X1 Omni when it was in the first three power modes. But once the latter was set to maximum suction mode, or both in the self-emptying process, they were noticeably loud, which was like a jet taking off next to me. Even though the emptying process is brief, the sudden noise can be startling enough to send both pets and people around jumping out of their skin.
Mopping Ability
I was glad that the mop pad on the X1 Omni actually did the job instead of being a knock-off mop. Rather than dragging a thin scrap of cloth along the floor like the Roomba J7+ Combo and most hybrid robots, the X1 Omni features a duo of mop pads that swirl at 180 RPM for better cleaning performance. The pads attach to its body magnetically, making it a breeze to affix or remove them whenever you’re in the mood to mop.
And yes, you don’t even have to wash their duo mopping pads manually. The two water tanks supply water to refill the on-board water container and wash the mopping pads, then collect the dirty water in a second tank. The home base even blows hot air for 2-4 hours to get the pads properly dry, preventing potential mold and ensuring they go around without damp smells.
This one, like the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, is among the 2-in-1 robots that are good at detecting different surfaces. When it is in vacuuming-only mode, it can boost the suction power when moving from a hard floor to a carpet. And if you have the mop pads attached, it will lift them up when it goes over a rug or doormat. And if you wish, you can manually designate areas where mopping is off-limits via the app.
