Both the Roborock Q Revo vs Ecovacs X1 Omni are the most feature-rich bots I’ve ever laid my hands on, and naturally, they’re exorbitantly expensive. So, what sets them apart? And crucially, which one takes the crown? To cut a long story short, the latter is my choice!
They use LiDAR technology for fast and accurate mapping, and their all-in-one home bases eliminate numerous upkeep chores. Both are also equipped with an excellent mopping system and offer a plethora of smart capabilities accessible via the app.
As for the main differences, the Ecovacs X1 Omni has better overall cleaning performance and offers several one-of-a-kind features, such as a CCTV function and personal virtual assistant. Meanwhile, the Roborock Q Revo has a mop-lifting system and provides a live app feature for tracking the robot’s location.

The first reason that can justify the salty price of the Ecovacs X1 Omni is its incredible suction power. When this one is at its highest setting, it offers 23.7 CFM as opposed to the Q Revo’s 13.1 CFM. Of course, suction power isn’t the sole determinant of a robot vacuum’s performance, but it certainly provides a significant indication of its cleaning potential.

Despite its lower airflow, the Q Revo managed to achieve an impressive overall score of up to 99%, while the X1 Omni secured 97%. This disparity can be attributed to the X1 Omni’s dual side brushes, which, in my observations, had a tendency to disperse debris more, thereby affecting its overall pick-up rate.

To check how well these bots pick up hair and resist tangles, I spread five and ten-inch hair strands and did a run test. Yet, detangling proved to be somewhat more straightforward with the Q Revo, thanks to its bristle-less roller design.

Upon my initial encounter with these vac-bots, they immediately reminded me of flying saucers. Well, I mean, both feature a round-shaped body and a chic yet futuristic look. They are heavier than I anticipated but feel well-built, and I found no trouble carrying them up and down the stairs. Yes, after all, they don’t possess the legs to do that task themselves.
For me, the real stars of the show, overshadowing even the vac-bots, were their do-it-all home bases, which I fondly dubbed “mini refrigerators.” They are quite bulky and are where all the operations take place, from emptying the dust box and refilling the water tank to washing and drying the mopping pad. Given their heft, you’d want to strategize their placement in your home since, trust me, you won’t want to move them very often.
Extractor & Side Brush
The Q Revo features a single bristle-free brush compared to the combo roller on the belly of the Ecovacs X1 Omni. Cleaning the Q Revo’s roller was remarkably straightforward, thanks to its bristle-less design, of course. But to my surprise, detangling the X1 Omni’s roller also proved simpler than many of the bristle-equipped rollers I’ve previously put to the test, not to mention it also came with a hooked cleaning tool to simplify the process even more.
When it comes to the side brush, tasked with capturing debris from corners and edges to bring them to the primary cleaning path, the Q Revo sports a three-pronged brush, whereas the X1 Omni is equipped with two. The X1 Omni’s twin corner brushes are affixed to its chassis using a clamping mechanism, enabling easy removal without necessitating a screwdriver, unlike the Q Revo’s design.
Navigation
Right out of the box, they’ll initially skirt around to map your entire house, and you can keep track of this mapping progression through the app for each device. Given that both employ LiDAR technology for mapping and navigation, the initial mapping process is notably swift. For comparison, most of my vSLAM robots required a minimum of 4 cycles to sketch out a comprehensive map, while these laser-based ones only needed a single run to complete the job.
Both the Q Revo and X1 Omni are able to remember up to four maps, meaning they can work well in most multi-level households. Whenever they’re introduced to a new area or level, one that’s not previously stored in their memory, they begin drawing the new map while retaining all the previous ones.
During my testing, these bots were fairly good at avoiding potential obstacles. The main difference is in the technology they use: the Q Revo uses an IR sensor, whereas the X1 Omni integrates a camera with an inherent AI component that employs 3D sensing technology. Incidentally, the front camera of the X1 Omni can double as a home security camera, but more on that later.
I found these bots tended to drive towards large obstacles, including a shoe, doll, and joke shop dog poo but stopped about a hair’s breadth away to not touch them. However, it was somewhat disheartening to see that both still fall short in their ability to recognize electrical cords lying on the floor. If you ask me, my Roomba J7+ was very good at avoiding power cords.

Each of these bots is equipped with a robust 5200 mAh Li-ion battery, leading to commendable endurance between recharging cycles. Notably, both have the ability to “recharge and resume,” meaning if they’re unable to finish their cleaning duty on a single charge, they possess the intelligence to autonomously return to their docking station, recharge, and then pick up right where they left off to complete the job.

Manual Control
The manual controls for these bots are quite basic. The Q Revo has two physical buttons on top: one to start/stop a cleaning trip and one to send the bot home, while the X1 Omni just has a single button to do the same things. To access all the smart functions, you need to download the app.
App Connectivity
The Q Revo works with the Roborock app, while the X1 Omni is compatible with the X1 Omni Home app. Both are feature-rich free apps and share a lot of functions, but the latter gets my nod for some additional added value.
Firstly, both have a 3D mapping function. That means, apart from generating an old-school 2D map, these apps can show your living space in 3D and give you the ability to drag and drop furniture to their actual locations in your home for a true-to-life representation. But while it seems somewhat redundant on the Roborock, it’s a game changer on the Ecovacs – it grants you the ability to give specific directives like “clean around my sofa” or “clean under the kitchen table.”
One unique feature of the Roborock app that I really like is the live map. It shows the Q Revo’s location in real-time, keeping the robot always in your sight and the areas it has cleaned.
In terms of map modifications, both apps are strikingly similar. They provide the option to segment and label rooms. Then, you can set virtual barriers, including no-go/no-mop zones and invisible walls, to keep the bot from entering zones you don’t want it to enter. Plus, there are options for tweaking suction strength, selecting mopping force and planning cleaning cycles.
These apps also facilitate voice commands through virtual assistants like Google Home or Alexa, and this leads to the next difference between Roborock and Ecovacs: the X1 Omni has its own voice assistant named Yiko.
Just like Alexa, Yiko is always ready to heed your commands, and she can understand a number of languages, including English. Simply start with “Okay, Yiko” (pronounced ee-kho), and you can then give her one of 36 commands that are accessible within the app. Yiko worked particularly well, but there were moments during my experience when she didn’t listen to me and missed commands a few times when the robot was vacuuming.
Last but not least, the front-facing camera on the X1 Omni can act like a CCTV camera. Simply put, you can directly see what the Q Revo sees as it maneuvers through its cleaning routine and “drive” it via the virtual dashboard on your phone if you want. And that’s not all – the device comes equipped with a call function, enabling you to communicate through it. It also gives you the capability to record videos and snap photos on the go.
Cleaning & Maintenance

These bots both have a dust box to house things they pick up on your floor – of course, they do: the Roborock Q Revo has a 0.35-liter bin versus a 0.4-liter bin on the X1 Omni. Their bins aren’t really big and require frequent emptying, but that’s where their do-it-all bases steal the show!
Their towers aren’t exactly the same design and dimensions, but they serve the same purpose of keeping your hands free during the cleaning process. I mean, while you leave home or enjoy your morning cup of Joe, these towers take care of everything from emptying the dust bin and refilling the water tank to cleaning and heat-drying the mop pads.
Both towers provide enough space to cleverly store a pair of large water tanks (one for clean water, one for dirt), an ample dust bag, and a cozy nook for the robot to dock. They are quite cumbersome, and pinpointing the perfect placement can be a bit of a challenge. The good news is that they look good enough, so they don’t feel like an eyesore that needs to be tucked out of sight.
Regarding the filtration system, the X1 Omni is equipped with both a sponge filter and a high-efficiency filter. The high-efficiency filter can be cleaned by tapping it against a trash bin, while the sponge filter can be washed under running water and then allowed to air dry. Meanwhile, the Q Revo has an E11 filter, which is washable as well.

My noise tests show that the X1 Omni tends to operate at a noticeably louder volume compared to the Q Revo as a trade-off for its enhanced airflow. Their noise levels increased significantly during the self-emptying and -drying process, and there is no getting away from that. So if your family has someone who is particularly sensitive to noise, it is best to schedule the cleaning sessions during times when the house is empty.
Mopping Ability
Honestly, I was quite impressed with their mop units. Instead of the rudimentary drag-along pad, which is typical of many combo robots and often gives the floor a quick but ineffective wipe, the Q Revo and X1 Omni use a pair of spinning mops to actively work on stubborn stains. In layman’s terms, they deliver better cleaning performance than bots without agitating factors.
Speaking of the ability to avoid wetting carpets, of course, you always have the option of setting no-mop zones. But the X1 OMNI will avoid carpets and rugs – it smartly skirts around carpets and rugs, cleaning closely along their edges but never going onto them if you have the mop parts attached. Hence, if you intend for the robot to tackle carpeted areas, it’s essential to detach the mop pads beforehand.
The Q Revo is even better since it features an auto mop pad lifting system. Upon detecting carpeted surfaces, it can autonomously elevate its pads by up to 7 millimeters, traverse the carpet, and then drop the mop pads back down to proceed with cleaning hard surfaces. This ensures that the mopping pads do not come into contact with carpets or rugs during a combined cleaning cycle.
All seems promising, but when it comes down to the nitty-gritty, how well do these bots mop? Both did a great job of handling light spills like grape juice stains, but they failed to tackle tougher jobs like dried-up BBQ sauce. There is also no option to add a cleaning solution to help with the hard scrubbing. I didn’t consider this a deal-breaker since, for most users, handling dried-on stains isn’t the primary expectation from a robotic mop, right?
